A name, phone number, or address entered in a search box is sent to the third-party service that supplies results. Our servers do not retain a copy of those search terms. If you contact us, we receive the information in the message and use it to respond.
Automatic Technical Data
Hosting services generate routine logs such as IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps. We review that data in aggregate for maintenance and to understand general readership. Cookies or comparable tools may support basic analytics and, where relevant, advertising measurement.
How Limited Data Is Used
We use the limited information described above to operate the service, diagnose issues, measure traffic, and improve its reference material. We do not sell visitor lists or create profiles of individual readers.
Outside Services and Links
County and state portals, library collections, archives, and sponsored search tools linked here operate under their own privacy practices. Their policies control information submitted on their services, including information sent through sponsored results.
Service Providers and Disclosures
Companies that host or support the service may process server logs for us. Analytics and advertising partners can receive the automatic data described above. We disclose information when valid legal process requires disclosure, and otherwise do not share it.
Safeguards and Retention
The service uses an encrypted connection and retains logs only for the purposes stated here. There are no user accounts, passwords, or visitor profiles maintained by this service.
Visitors Under 18
This service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided information, contact us so it can be deleted.
Your Privacy Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, appeal, or opt out regarding personal data held by a covered controller under the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act, Va. Code Title 59.1, Chapter 53. Because we keep little data, a request normally involves checking our contact mailbox and server logs, then removing what we find. Use the Contact page to ask. Public records held by Virginia or Roanoke County custodians are outside our control, and requests about them belong with the custodian.
